Attorney Karin M. Brown grew up in Evansville, Indiana and graduated from Evansville Reitz High School in 1992. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1996 with a BS in Exercise Science and again in 1997 with an MS in Adapted Physical Education. After two years working as an employment coordinator assisting adults with disabilities in obtaining employment, she made the decision to attend law school. Karin attended Valparaiso University School of Law and graduated in 2002. While in law school, Karin participated in the domestic violence clinic and the mediation clinics.
Karin was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in November of 2002. She was then admitted to the Indiana State Bar in February of 2004. Karin began her career at the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office. Initially, she covered traffic matters and then transferred to the child support division of the office.
In 2005, Karin joined the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office Child Support Division and worked there for 8 years. In 2013, Karin moved to the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office Child Support Division. Karin has had more than 12 years of experience with paternity and child support related matters.
In private practice, Karin handles family law cases such as divorce, paternity, child support establishment, child support modification, child support termination, child custody, visitation, and adoption. She handles juvenile matters such as CHINS matters and juvenile delinquencies. Additionally she handles criminal defense such as OWI/DUI and traffic matters.
When she isn’t practicing law, Karin can often be found with her husband and two children at sports or dance activities. Karin is a member of the Crown Point chapter of Tri Kappa. She is also a board member for the St. Jude House domestic violence shelter.
